Greed is a fact which any successful economic system must embrace. That does not mean greed is good; it would be easier to create a successful economic system if all people were perfectly altruistic. Greed makes it hard to develop a healthy economic system, but it is an unavoidable fact of the human condition.
All other things being equal, a person will tend to do the thing that maximizes their wealth. An economic system which embraces this fact, and uses it as a tool where possible, is inherently more practical than any system which presumes that greed can be attenuated.
To look at it from a more pragmatic perspective; an economic system which assumes that greed can be attenuated will necessarily be subverted by those in whom greed is unbounded. In such a system, bad actors will gain advantage over good actors.
